Before and After: Hand Crafted HDR Enhances Real Estate Photos Without Distracting – Part 7

Part of the fun of real estate photography is High Dynamic Range (HDR) post processing to make a photo look more like what your eye saw when you were taking the photo. For this aerial shot, the camera sensor has a high dynamic range, so multiple exposures weren’t necessary. But it still takes some doing to get all the information out of the image.


The Before shot was processed automatically, it still looks bland, except for the water. When the standard edits were applied to bring out colors in the house and the trees, the water really popped with that algae green. The house is still dark in the shadows because bringing up the shadows too much would look unnatural. In the After shot, the house shadows were masked and selectively brought up, and the water color was toned down closer to what it really looked like.
